My Top 10 Financial Resolutions

Financial top 10 by mortgage professional Ingrid Bjel McGaughey | CanadianMortgageCo.comAs some of you may know, I’m a staunch believer in writing down resolutions and goals.  This is in no small part due to the studies that show…

If you write down your goals, you’re more likely to achieve them

I find that the time spent in distilling my goals is always well spent.  It forces me to think about what I really want, and prune out a lot of the “noise” that seems to always be competing for my attention.  And writing down the goals is crucial.  Seeing the goal in front of you makes it real, and forces you to be accountable.  No more sneaky juggling around of priorities, as often happens when you’re keeping them in your head.  I know, because I’ve done it too!

The 2014 top 10 financial resolutions

In my most recent blog post for my column on the Wise Women Montreal website, I propose the following ten financial resolutions for 2014:

1. Figure out and write down your financial “SMART” goals.

2. Track what you spend.

3. Make sure you have an emergency fund.

4. Save more.

5. Spend less.

6. Reduce debt.

7. Earn more money.

8. Get secure.

9. Give something back.

10. Reward yourself!
